Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the office located?

Here is my office address:

3580 Mystic Pointe Drive
Aventura, FL 33180

Where do I park?
You enter the gated community and go to a one-floor building with KHO SPACE’s name. There is a free parking lot next to it. You can park at any spot marked as ‘KHO SPACE’ or ‘GUEST.’ After 5:00 p.m., you can park at any spot. If a parking lot is full, you can valet your car at the building next to it. Valet is $4.
What are your office hours?
I work from Monday to Friday. My working hours are flexible. I try accommodating my clients, especially those who need evening hours after school or work.
How long is a typical session?
A session is 50 minutes.
How do I make an appointment?

To set up an initial appointment, you can contact me either at info@kseniakogantherapy.com or by telephone at (954) 361-4417.

Do you accept insurance?

I don’t take insurances. I am a private pay or “out-of-network specialist.”

There are several reasons why I do not accept insurances. Insurance companies require to “label” clients with diagnoses, dictate treatments for clients, including frequency and types, and get access to your records.

I would like to protect your privacy and help you get the biggest healing possible. BUT I can give you a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

Some additional information for you:

  1. Insurance companies require me to provide diagnostic information to cover a session. If I work with teens struggling with self-esteem, lack of confidence, body image challenges, unhealthy eating behaviors and high-stress levels, I do not want to label them with official mental health diagnoses they do not have. If I work with adults going through stressful life circumstances, painful events, chronic medical illnesses, or other life transitions, it does not fall under psychiatric diagnoses.
  2. Despite my therapeutic recommendations, insurance companies dictate treatments for some clients that do not allow recommended type and amount of therapy sessions. For insurance companies, clients are one of many others. For me, you are not a number – you are a person. I do not want to be limited in helping you get the biggest healing possible.
  3. If you pay out of pocket, I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
  4. I would happily discuss my rates with you during your free consultation call.

Here are some questions that you can ask your insurance company:

  • Does my plan have out-of-network mental health benefits?
  • What is the coverage amount per session?
  • What is my copay?
  • Can I start working with out-of-the network therapist or I need a referral by my primary physician?
  • How many sessions per year does my plan cover?
Do you accept credit cards?
I accept all major credit cards.
Can I cancel an appointment? Do you have a cancellation policy?

Your session time is set for you. I respect your time, and I expect the same. I request a 24-hour cancellation notice.

Any appointment canceled less than 24 hours in advance will be charged the full session cost as it disrupts my schedule, and I cannot offer that time slot to someone else who might need it.

Who do you work with?
I work with adolescents aged 11+ and adults. I see adults for individual and couple therapies. I offer individual and family therapy sessions for teens.
What modalities do you use?

I am a certified EMDR therapist. I am trained and certified in Emotional Freedom Technique. I have advanced knowledge in I-EFT (Instructional Emotional Freedom Technique) that helps to work with clients suffering from chronic medical conditions and autoimmune diseases.

I also use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, somatic-based therapy, mindfulness techniques, and Solution-Focused approach.

Do you provide in-person or online sessions?
I offer in-person therapy sessions in my office in Aventura and online therapy sessions to Florida residents.
Are you LGBTQIA-friendly?

Yes. I accept everyone who falls under the LGBTQQIP2SAA umbrella. I have experience working with these clients and helping them find their inner strengths and peace.

Our therapy time together is the time when you can be yourself. There are no judgments, biases, or any assumptions about you. Acceptance, support, and validation is my approach!

Have you been in therapy yourself?

Absolutely. I have been in therapy myself. We all go through tough times periodically. There should be no shame or embarrassment to ask for help and be in therapy. We all deserve a place where we can breathe out and talk about our struggles.

Moreover, being in therapy helped me realize I want to help others.

Going through my struggles and being guided by a gentle and caring professional, I found my inner strengths at my lowest moments. I made a strong decision to help other people get out of their dark places of pain, shame, and loneliness and uncover full life experiences.

Are you a bilingual therapist?
Yes. I speak fluently both English and Russian. As a bilingual therapist, I provide services to Russian and Ukrainian populations, especially now when people are going through a crisis, being exposed to traumatic events, and experiencing their impact.
What is your educational background?

I have a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University and graduated with a Distinguished Scholar award, recognizing the highest final GPA level in the program.

After graduating, I have continuously trained in different modalities and am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and Emotional Freedom Technique.

What do you enjoy about being a therapist?
I enjoy witnessing how people who have been exposed to highly traumatic experiences in their lives let go of that pain, transform their sufferings into strengths, and start living happier and healthier lives free from emotional pain and suffering.
What do you like doing outside of the office?

I love spending time with my family and friends. I enjoy playing card games like UNO; board games like Battleship, Cluedo, and Imaginarium; and intellectual games like Trivia.

I love traveling. The places that I loved the most so far are Bali and the Maldives.

Cats or Dogs?

I am a dog lover. I had three dogs: Frenchie (Meggy), Japanese Chin (Emma), and Chihuahua (Bonya). Right now, I enjoy the company of a chihuahua only as two of my other beloved dogs went to a dog heaven.

You might hear or see Bonya in our online sessions. She loves therapy sessions as well.
